The name Calumangan originated from the word “kalunangan” which means mud.
It seemed the Spanish officials of that time found the place very muddy, but could not pronounce the word “kalunangan” properly.
They would repeatedly refer to the condition of the place as “kalumangan”, from which the name of the Barangay eventually evolved.
A native of the Barangay, Patricio Napagao, composed a piece of poetry which told how Calumangan got its name.
