LOOK | Second day of the Negros-wide local government unit (LGU) training on history and heritage organized by the National Historical Commission (NHCP) with City Government of Bago as host at the Community Center today, July 23.
Today’s activity covers sessions on Survey and Documentation of Historic Sites and Structures, Preservation and Conservation of Built Heritage and Movable Objects, and Local Historical Committees Network.
The lectures and workshops led by experts from the NHCP included topics like Recognition of Historic Sites and Structures and Resolution of Heritage Issues; Introduction to Preservation and Conservation Heritage; Determining Risks and Basic Conservation of Movable Objects; and Introduction to Local Historical Committees Network.
The event running until tomorrow, July 24, gathers over 150 participants composed of tourism officers, cultural workers, educators, and cultural enthusiasts and advocates, among others, from various LGUs across the region.

INSTITUTIONALIZING TVET IN BAGO. The City Government of Bago, under the leadership of Mayor Marina “Mayette” Javellana-Yao, is pushing for the institutionalization of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs in the city, which is seen to provide more livelihood and employment opportunities for Bagonhons.
Mayor Javellana-Yao met with some officials of the Special Implementation Team of LGU-led TVET under the office of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Francisco Benitez at the city hall Tuesday, July 22.
They are composed of Jason Tupas, focal person for LGU linkages, TESD Specialist II Gervic Pastrana, and TESD Specialist I Iris Mangurali.
Bago City Technology and Livelihood Development Center (TLDC) Manager Engr. Dar Licañel, who was also present at the meeting, said the city needs to pass an ordinance institutionalizing TVET in the city which also provides for the creation of a TVET Council here.
TESDA offers various exploratory programs like TESDA Online Program, TESDA sa Barangay, Program Registration, Community-Based Training Programs.
Licañel said they city just need to prepare a letter of intent to TESDA for probable online courses like bookkeeping and virtual assistant.
Enterprise-based training is needed prepare our employment skills, he said, adding that community-based TVET is for soft skills like food processing and fish processing, among others.
The Special Implementation Team of LGU-led TVET said there are still many other training and courses that can be availed by the city from TESDA.
The mayor, for her part, is pushing for the realization of this inititaive, as she expressed optimism that it will spur opportunities for the Bagonhons, especially in terms of livelihood and employment.
