Very few families used to inhabit the area with their houses scattered along Bago River. Only one pathway dominated by a scene of virgin dense forest of bamboo groves, coconut and big century-old trees led to this small community.
This area was a sitio of a town known as “Numancia,” after a place in Spain. In 1898, through the effort and leadership of Ambrosio Abuana, the name Numancia was changed to Abuanan, which later became Barrio Abuanan under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Bago.
