Sagasa is a medium-sized tree bountifully grown in this once swampy and woody area during the last years of the Spanish era and until the early part of the Japanese occupation.

These trees gave dense and wide shade that made sitting under them very comfortable. People in surrounding sitios used to converge in the place to sell their products and to buy needed supply. In the course of these activities, they would sit and rest under these sagasa trees.
