A long time ago, when the Spaniards came, the natives of this place were both astonished and scared to see these very tall people, with long mustaches and very white complexion. One beautiful lady who had a long hair came out with courage and welcomed the foreigners.
The Spaniards felt happy and paid their respect to the lady by saying, “buenos días señorita.” However the lady did not understand what the Spaniards said. While the foreigners were sitting on the bamboo bench to rest, one of the Spaniards asked the lady, “El nombre de este lugar?” The lady, not understanding, said, “Indi kami ma itom, mailum- ilum lang” (We are not dusky, just brownish).
